I was deeply attracted by Feng's head sculpt when it was first posted by his good friend Peter in the TAFC (Taiwanese Action Figure Club) forum and I have been paying attention for any new works Feng came up since then.

Thanks for Peter's introduction, I recently have the privilege to meet with this talented sculptor in person.  Together with my wife, Cher, we spent some great hours in a French restaurant in Taichung.

Feng was kind enough to bring some of his works to share with us on that day.

To my surprise, Feng is not working in this field, instead, is a commercial designer for over 10 years. And in fact, never take any sculpture lesson.  As for the 12", he started the collection approx. 2 years ago and develops the interest in the head sculpt recently.  With no experience, the first head he did was not close (Harrison Ford in K-19), he showed his work to friends for opinion and advice, and he took the crit well.  After a month of refinement, everybody was so amazed by the outcome.  He then takes up the challenge to do more celebrity faces.

another version of Bruce, rather using the same head sculpt on different characters, Feng modify the molds to match what the character appeared in the movies

With little photos for reference, he managed to capture the spirit of each character.  It takes about one month for him to refine each sculpt after the first mold is finished, such as improving the details on the hairs and neck, due to his insistence of perfection.

The pictures really can't show how much blood and sweat Feng spent on each project, little details such as the texture on the hairs and beard, a small drop of gloss pigment on the eyes makes the sculpt comes to alive, simply stunning...

Feng was very opened when I asked him about his technic. Unfortunately, I am a total amateur when it comes to head sculpt, otherwise, I should be able to learn more from his sharing. One thing I did remember he mentioned is, rather using knife to sculpt, most of his works are finished by grinding and sending.  He constantly tries out new material for molding and casting.  Always looking for improvement of the skill in sculpting and painting.

On the right is a celebrity in Taiwan, the mayor of the Taipei city, as for the one on the left.... take a wild guess ........ well, most of the artist do a self portrait ;^P
Feng specially pointed out that by using a small pincers, he spent almost one hour to make that tie perfect. (he tied it the way just like the 1:1 ! )

Feng insists to paint every head he sculpted instead of having somebody to paint them. He thinks this will further enhance the expression of the character, because he knows the unique and specialty of each head.

I look forward to meet with Feng again during my next trip to Taiwan and hopefully can pay a visit to his studio ;^P
